The Greater Philadelphia Health Action Inc. celebrated its grand opening this weekend.

At 5500 Woodland Ave. in Southwest Philadelphia, the doors opened as families from the neighborhood were invited for food, drinks, music and informational tables lasting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With radio station Power 99 present, neighborhood kids danced and ate while their parents were able to receive free blood pressure testing, massages and information on healthcare.

“You know out here it is difficult to get assistance especially with such low income. At this health center I know that I have a place to come that can actually help me, instead of turning me down because I don’t make enough money,” said Beverly Williams, a local resident.

At the Greater Philadelphia Health Action Inc. primary health care services and behavioral counseling are provided.

“Drug and alcohol counseling is one of the major programs utilized here at the health care center. Unfortunately, families in this area struggle with finding assistance in all matters. Here at the Greater Philadelphia Health Action Inc., we try our best to show the community that there are people are truly want to help,” said Trista Samuelson, a behavioral counselor.

Trista Samuelson, a behavioral counselor, interacted with the residents of Southwest Philadelphia.

The newly renovated Greater Philadelphia Health Action Inc. is helping the residents of the community Monday through Saturday.
