Germantown: First Valentine’s Special Class Sells Out at Philadelphia School of Circus Arts

Students enhanced their skills in a private lesson at the PSCA.

Dare to dabble in some doubles trapeze, acrobatics and tightwire with your significant other this Valentine’s Day season? You may be too late to swing with your sweetheart at the Philadelaphia School of Circus Arts’ “Double The Love” this year.

Aspiring aerialists of affection ought to plan ahead for next year. The PSCA class has sold out all available spots in its first-ever special Valentine’s sessions focusing on couples’ doubles circus acts.

Kory Aversa, the marketing manager of PSCA, described the class as “a good opportunity for people who have experience to introduce their spouse or significant other to their love of circus acts.”

The school is offering a special lesson on the three doubles activities “for beginners with no special experience or skill required.”

A student practiced her flexibility before moving on to bigger stunts.

The workshop costs $25 per person. Though the school provides classes to all ages, the Valentine’s workshop is open to anyone 16 years old and above. The first session will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. Two more sessions will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Since moving to the neighborhood in 2008, the school has served the Germantown area as the regional center of contemporary circus arts. The school’s website, phillycircus.com, offers “several different kinds of classes including aerials (static trapeze, corde lisse, aerial silks and lyra), juggling, unicycling, tightwire, tumbling and physical conditioning.”

The school normally offers an introductory course to anyone for $25. Aversa said all ages are encouraged to “try a class, build some confidence, and experience what it feels like to be in the air.”
