The Nichols Berg Gallery, located at 8611 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill, is the site of an ongoing art exhibit featuring the work of three local artists.
Throughout June recent paintings and works on paper by Julie Zahn, Peggy Merves and Julie McMahon Borge will be on display.
Steve Berg, a Chestnut Hill resident and owner of the Nichols Berg Gallery, believes the gallery has become a hub for the arts in Chestnut Hill.
“People look at us just not as a gallery, but also as a place to socialize,” Berg said. “People call it the Nichols Berg Clubhouse.”
Julie Zahn is one of the featured artists at this exhibit and has been a resident of Mount Airy for 18 years. Zahn’s work features elements of the garden from outside her studio as she uses woodcut and Japanese stencil dyeing to create her paintings.
Zahn said she believes this art gallery is an asset to the Chestnut Hill community. “This gallery has an incredible following and the artists love showing their work here,” Zahn said. “It’s a community meeting place.”
The gallery is an attraction for both local residents and visitors outside of Northwest Philadelphia. Valerie Coursen, a resident of Narberth, Pa., regularly attends art exhibits in the area.
“I feel like I am on vacation when I walk into this gallery,” Coursen said. “I like to pop into places like this.”
