Robert Young watched as two neighbors went through his old records.

Robert Young had at least three boxes of records on the sidewalk in front of his parents’ house and four more in the yard.

“I’ve been involved in this event since my parents bought this house and we moved into the neighborhood,” said Young as he organized the rest of his items.

He was one of many neighbors who participated in the 32nd Annual Hamilton Street Porch Sale this past weekend. The sale was from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between 34th and 38th streets on Hamilton street.

The annual event encourages residents to socialize with their neighbors while also giving them the chance to get rid of things they no longer use. Young’s collection of records included big names such as Salt-N-Pepa, The Police and even comedy albums from Temple’s most famous alumni, Bill Cosby.

The other items on sale included bookcases, furniture, clothes, books, film cameras, paintings, musical instruments, housewares and more. A few of the porches featured bikes for as low as $40 and there was even a table for cleaning products.

The neighborhood also set up food tables to serve hungry shoppers. The selection included Jamaican cuisine, barbeque prepared by the local churches, water ice and a few lemonade stands.

Lemonade by Ellis, a stand set up by a group of kids, offered advice to children for the low price of 50 cents.
