Northern Liberties: Five Places To Pamper Your Pet

From the continued renovation of new apartments and residences to the influx of small businesses in Northern Liberties, this up-and-coming Philadelphia neighborhood has a lot going on. Pets play a major role in the community – so much so that local businesses have made it their mission to serve man’s best friend. Here are five places to groom, train and pamper your pet.

Doggie Style (860-862 N. 3rd St.)

Doggie Style, the next door neighbor of the Pet Mechanic, serves as a pick-me-up to your pooch after a possible vet visit next door. Filled with every treat imaginable, the store is sure to put a smile back on your puppy’s face. The store allows dogs to mix and mingle and gives their owners a chance to learn the most recent trends in pet care.

Originally located on 1700 E. Passyunk Ave., the popular, 8-year old company expanded into Northern Liberties.

Dog School: A Dog Day Care in Philadelphia (718 N 2nd St.)

As a crowd gathered across the street in front of the well known Green Eggs Cafe, the consistent sound heard was the bark of many different types of pooches. Puppies and adult dogs alike walked up and down 2nd street with their owners, many walking toward the Dog School.

The Dog School has three Philadelphia locations – Rittenhouse Square, Center City and Northern Liberties. They are daycare facilities that provide a stress-free environment for your pets (dogs roam freely – they are never in cages).

This specialized spa, a Best Of Philly winner in 2008, is a Northern Liberties go-to for pet owners.  allows their dogs to fully enjoy the wide open space as they roam the grounds, eat and play without restraint. Chez Bow Wow uses all organic products, such as pesticide-free shampoos and flea and tick removers, and have a stern go-green initiative.

Spots Spot store does customized grooming, adoptions and adoption events. Owner Philip Stevenson says his shop offers personalized service, like tail dying and mohawks.

Chic Petique is a small Northern Liberties pet shop that specializes in all natural, holistic products. Many of the products cannot be found in other pet shops. These healthy options have helped establish a loyal customer base.
